BAPTISM


The Sacrament of Baptism is celebrated twice a month: the first and third Saturday of the month at 11:00 a.m.(some exceptions due to Holy Days and liturgical celebrations). Please call the Parish Office to register for the preparation program and to set a date for the Baptism.

Baptismal Prep class Instructs parents and godparents about the importance of the Sacrament of Baptism and their roles as parents and godparents. Godparents and parents are required to attend a Baptismal Preparation class. Please call the Parish Office to schedule a Baptismal Preparation class and Baptismal ceremony, (773) 763-1661.

Parents

Parents must be active and registered parishioners for at least 6 Months.If the parents are registered at a church other then St. Monica, a letter of permission is needed from the Pastor of that church.The Parish Office must view the County issued Birth Certificate.
A copy will be made at the Parish Office. A Baptismal Prep Class must be completed before the Baptism. 

Godparents

Godparents must be Confirmed practicing Catholics 16 years of age or older.They can not be the parent of the child being baptized. At least one Godparent must be a practicing Catholic. However the second Godparent can be a practicing Christian known as a Christian Witness. Godparents must be one male and one female. Godparents can not be the same sex (2 females or 2 males). There must be at least one Godparent. A letter of eligibility is needed from the Parish where the Godparents are registered. A Baptismal Prep Class is not mandatory for Godparents but is suggested.
